Tahoe

Only got a few days there, but it was GREAT!  We were a little worried about the weather as they had snow and rain last Thurs. with temps at night in the low 30’s (F). Last year we had this same trip planned and there was still 6 in. of snow; so we went south to Monterey.  However, we arrived in Tahoe City with clear, blue skies and temps in the 60’s. We had a campsite reserved which had a view of the lake.

We had the place mostly to ourselves, and when I say “place,” I mean the whole campground. I think one night there were 2 or 3 other sites filled but then they left in the morning, never to be seen again. We enjoyed our site so much we set out chairs in view of the lake, grabbed our books, with gin and tonic in hand and relaxed. We had fires at night and cooked the first night in camp; grilled bratwurst, baked beans and a salad.

There’s a great mountain bike ride just a few miles away in Burton State Park, great because Chloe can come along and it’s pretty much soft dirt (a few rocky sections but easy on the dog’s feet). You climb a little to a meadow and at the halfway point is a creek.  I called the Pugsley into service and here’s my first time on snow (see that little patch on the side?).

Kate and Chloe found a wonderful pond on the way back to the trailhead. It’s impossible to keep Chloe out of the water.

Less than 50 yards from our camp is a beach (all rocks unfortunately) and Chloe could swim and you could take a trail all along the lake to more civilized areas, like a marina. Here’s the Tahoe Gal; I guess people take tours around the lake on her.

One artsy pic before I go……. this guy’s still looking for gold.

    1. Lake Tahoe, a marvel of Mother Nature……..lake’s edge sits about 6300 ft. above sea level and the lake’s deeper than 1600 feet. Always enjoy your pictures; thanks for sharing them.
